Product feedback for Upload file filter in Sitecore XM Cloud
Product feedback is one of the important roles of a technology community member. In case of Sitecore SaaS world, this holds even more importance since changes to Sitecore CMS are now gated. Recently, I came across a requirement wherein I wanted to limit the file extensions uploaded through the media library. In case of the old Sitecore CMS world, this scenario was handled via installation of a package named Upload Filter tool as mentioned in this documentation link. In the current XM Cloud world, when I went ahead to check the best practice to accomplish the same, the Sitecore support team updated me that they have raised a feature request to accomplish the same in the XM Cloud world. Here is the support case no. and response from the team member:

Support case no.: CS0513411
Hello Navan,
Based on the provided information we would like to define the scope of the current case:
Issue definition: Restrict certain file extensions from being uploaded to the Media Library
Investigation target: we will work diligently to provide an answer to the defined question.
Additional notes:
- if new circumstances are revealed during the course of the investigation, the scope can be changed based on the mutual agreement;
- overall investigation course will be aligned with Sitecore general Scope Of Support (https://support.sitecore.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0463549);
- questions that are not related to the investigation scope should be registered as separate cases (https://support.sitecore.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0004553).
From my understanding, you would like to restrict the file types that are allowed to be uploaded to the Media Library. Please let me know in case my understanding is not correct.
I have checked on this further and currently limiting the allowed extensions for media file uploads is not supported in XM Cloud out of the box. I have submitted a feature request for our product department so it can be considered for future versions of the product.
To track the future status of this feature, please use the reference number CFW-1239. More information about public reference numbers can be found here: https://support.sitecore.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0853187
Thank you, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any more questions regarding this.
Best Regards,
